Purpose: We were supposed to use our paper folding techniques from the Origami challange to create a thing that can protect the egg from 2~1 text books dropped from a certain height.
Group Memebers: Jennifer Minji Phillip
The Final design we created was the 3D cube box filled with ballon orgami folded papers with collums on the sides.
The ballon inside was to protect the egg from extreme shock. The colums were there to take in the impact from the textbooks. If we dropped imdiately without the colums, then the cube would crash, but these layerly rolled up colums helped support the cube to not crash fastly and take in more weight.
Out First design was only the cube and the ballon, and it failed. On the second trial we added the colums, and it was quite successful ( the egg was safe, but the colums seemed a bit weak) so we decided to continue with the design with more balloons inside the cube and more thick colums.
On our final trial with the final design mentioned before, we succeeded becuase we fixed our mistakes and made it more thick and strong. (We added two more colums on the bottom for support) We dropped one text book and we succeded.
First Trial: Fail (2 text books)
Second Trial (2 textbooks) Pass
Final ( 1 textbook) Pass
Next time we will add even more colums so that the force will be taken away. (We will also follow the directions better because we cracked an egg that was not supposed to be cracked.)
I learned how to build a safe house for an egg through this project and I think I will be confident for the egg drop soon using my new knowlege.
